Bandcamp Friday Roundup: December 2024

(Clockwise: The Avenu, The Honey Badgers, Dolphin Space Program, Year Of The Comet, The Blues Reincarnation Project, King Lew Productions)

Every year holiday madness creeps up on us. We know it’s coming, but even still it feels like in a flash, every department store and radio station is playing the same several Christmas songs back-to-back. We’ve dedicated this Bandcamp Friday Roundup to Holiday Music from local and independent artists and bands adding their own creative contributions to this genre, and some artists who could use the support.

For anyone unaware, Bandcamp Friday is when the online record store and music community, Bandcamp, dedicates the earnings made on that day to waiving their fees. This results in more money going directly to the artists who deserve it. Stop by and spread a little local love and support if you enjoy it.

If you’re a musician who wants to be featured in The Gable Verse, send your Bandcamp links here.

The AveNu

If you’re looking for some new, original music to celebrate all things Christmas, Delaware R&B group The Avenu has you covered. Their 5-song EP titled My First Christmas Project is packed with gospel inspired vocals dancing over powerful R&B arrangements.

The Honey Badgers

Newark-based folk duo Honey Badgers have a tender and tranquil festive EP titled Christmas With The Honey Badgers for your purchasing pleasure. They put their own folky spin on classic tunes like “O Holy Night” and “What Child Is This”, and include a special holiday greeting for all who listen to completion.

Dolphin Space Program

Dolphin Space Program is a duo based out of Clayton, Delaware. Their holiday album An Extremely Dolphin Christmas will have you cracking up at the Christmas party with songs like “Grandma Got Run Over By A Saucer” and their rendition of “Auld Lang Syne” done completely with kazoos.

Christmas Island Live

If you’re looking to add a little punk to your holiday mix, New Castle-based record label 10x Records has you covered. They released a 3-track EP of holiday covers from band Year Of The Comet titled Christmas Island Live. The release is as a Bandcamp exclusive and not available anywhere else.

The Blues Reincarnation Project

The Blues Reincarnation Project might not have any holiday specific music out, but supporting this band by purchasing some of their latest live recording album will most definitely get you on Santa’s Nice list. The Delaware-based blues band is currently raising funds to support them as they travel to Memphis in January to compete in the International Blues Challenge. Purchase their music and/or merch to send them on their way.

King Lew Productions

Wilmington-based producer King Lew has a 4 song beat tape titled Always Merry In The Trap. As the title suggests, this collection of music is familiar holiday music set to dancey beats and trap sounds - to keep you dancing until the new year!
