Music Review: "IN LUV" by EXPO
EXPO is a band that uniquely blends art-rock, dance music, and experimental indie like nothing you’ve heard before. Two years after their self-titled EP, Philadelphia-based art rock band EXPO returns with their new single "IN LUV, ahead of their debut album ENTERS THE CHAT released April 11. True to their signature style of synths, danceable beats, and reverb-drenched vocals, "IN LUV" gets under your skin and launches you into the future. Join us as we dive into this new and uniquely haunting song here at The Gable Verse.
“IN LUV” has us falling head over heels with some familiar faces. The band is made up of Dave McGrory (Grace Vonderkuhn), Russ Israel (russy, Rew), and Tyler Yoder (Milieu Lust, Cosmic Guilt). Each member contributes on their respective instruments, with all three providing vocals, taking their music to the next level. The song opens with 80s-inspired synth sounds, quickly evolving into a dynamic soundscape driven by syncopated drums. With nostalgic lyrics like “going back to that time when we were in love,” sung by multiple members through reverb-heavy, blown-out filters, this track reveals layers that draw you back for repeated listens to uncover more.
“IN LUV” was recorded by Russ of the band and mixed and mastered by Delaware-born composer and engineer Samuel Nobles. You can stream “IN LUV,” purchase the album, and watch the music video, created by EXPO member Dave, on the band’s official Bandcamp page here.
