Music Review: Ghastly Good Times in latest release ‘Ghost Writer’ with John Faye and Annalise Curtin
Delaware musical icon and recently best selling author John Faye and his friend Philadelphia singer songwriter Annalise Curtin are celebrating their latest single, ‘Ghost Writer’. Released everywhere on October 6 along with a release show on October 13 at Media Arts Council in Media PA this song is catching like wildfire with a WXPN Local Pick feature and countless shares and streams. This song is just in time for the spooky season and delivers Halloween realness with its emo lyrics and pop rock guitars.
I don’t wanna be your ghost writer
You don’t even hear my voice
I can touch you but it doesn’t even matter
‘Cause I’m not enough
And I never had a choice
-Annalise Curtin
Who would have thought a song about feeling unseen and unheard could sound so catchy and bright? Touching on subjects of feeling undesirable and unrequited love, these two are diving into their emo bag of tricks to get fans crooning and yearning like a ghost in the attic of an ex-lover.
The instrumentation is what makes the song so fun and catchy despite the serious lyrics. Faye proves once again they are a master of melodies as the rhythm guitar grabs you right in the beginning with undeniably fun and captivating phrasing. The song has a straightforward rock feel with drums and bass done up so the song is light and playful throughout, giving it that pop rock sweetness. A bridge where the two singers meet and howl at the moon together features piano and fun textures on the vocals for a ghastly good time before they rock out with a fun repeating chorus.
Oh we sing as we’re dancing around and around
Oh we sing as we’re dancing around and around
Oh we sing as we’re dancing around for the last time
-John Faye and Annalise Curtin
The mix and master was done by Ron DiSilvestro at Studio Four in Conshohocken, PA. The song was not ghost written and in fact all lyrics and instrumentation were done by John Faye and Annalise Curtin. These two mad musical scientists have the perfect mixture in ‘Ghost Writer’ as a soundtrack for dancing in the graveyard at midnight to conjure up a love spell.
