Music Review: "On The Run" by Dutchman

Delaware-based music group ‘Dutchman’ is a 4-piece rock band composed of Connor Johnson (lead vocals, guitar) Garrett Gravatt (vocals, guitar), Franco Solarzano (piano), and a charismatic drummer affectionately and simply called Fez. Since their conception in 2017, they’ve been deeply influenced by the warm nostalgic sounds of southern rock musically and stylistically, as seen in their clothing and stage performance. They deliver a beautiful and catchy spin to an older genre in the music video for recently released single “On The Run”.

The track kicks in with congas, tambourine, and a crunchy country guitar lick. Some organ comes into play and the song takes off as the vocals kick in. The music video is brilliantly crafted to look like a home movie caught on a camera from several decades ago. It matches the old school sound of the song with the shots featuring the boys in the band driving around the backroads and plenty of wide open space to feel free in. The guitar solo follows a gospel organ or Rhodes-sounding key section, and leads you to the end of the song giving the tune one last final lift like a screaming eagle into the sunset.

“On The Run” is a few of their recently released singles all leading up to their album Springfield 78, slated for release in June 2025. Check out their music and see them live competing in music competition “Cabin Fever” at Dew Point Brewing on February 1, in Yorklyn, alongside Harvey Road, RAR and more.
