Witnessing The Gable Verse Music Blog grow was my favorite endeavor in 2023. Sug's curiosity and passion to search and recognize local and independent musicians is inspirational. We're growing every day and although we're currently not as large as other media companies, sharing the stories and music of local talent exposes them to an outside audience and potential fans while keeping us connected to the scene around us. This symbiotic relationship is vital for a healthy, sustainable, and supportive music scene.

My favorite is not a 'what' or a 'where' - but rather, a 'who' -the most amazing and talented local blues musician and session player, Jeffrey Attakorah, or "Ghanian Bluesman", as his social tags dictate. There's no one song or release he's been featured on - no one show or venue he's performed, where he doesn't blow my mind with his passion and expertise on his instrument. He has shared the stage with distinguished blues artists, performed all over the area in countless summer series, events, and festivals, has released records, and won awards. The local scene and the internet just can't seem to get enough of his contributions to any song or collaboration. The guitar for him is like an extension of his body, mind, and soul - elevating every piece of music to some other new, exciting level. I can't say enough how much I recommend checking out his Blues-Rock Power Trio, The Blues Reincarnation Project, at your favorite local venue - or trying to catch him at one of his frequent special appearances with other bands. He's got tons of material online, available on his website and on Youtube, but I promise - go see the Ghanaian Bluesman rocking out live and let his vibes sink right in.

My favorite musical moment of 2023 was being part of my mentor, singer-songwriter, and author, John Faye’s book release The Yin and The Yang Of It All show and celebration at Ardmore Music Hall in April. It was a sold out event with lots of musical guests and friends of John’s throughout the years he had been making music. The love in the room was palpable and the night was a great example of how a musical community is such a vital part of any working musician's life and work.

The music industry is a wild ever changing platform and to have someone like John Faye in my life has restored my faith that anyone can achieve a lengthy, holistic, and sustainable career in music.

My favorite moment of 2023 was Nitro Nitra's Milford Ladybug Music Festival performance. On top of providing an electrifying performance, Nitra opened up the Main Stage and shared a song with Alisabeth Von Presley, who performed earlier that night on the My Sister's Fault Stage. When these two rockstars joined forces to share the stage they raised the energy of the crowd and provided a one-of-a-kind "had to be there" moment to the night that can never be replicated.

Tynisha's performance at Ladybug Music Festival in Wilmington was electric. She transported the entire room to the early 2000s R&B / pop / hip-hop era, a style of music and an energy that's super difficult to capture live, particularly in a bar setting. She's the real deal and we don't get too many of those performances at that level, in that genre at Ladybug. Go Tynisha!
