Jovon Newman is ready to commit in ‘Certified’ music video

Delaware singer Jovon Newman might have switched up his style and genre in the last couple years, but his passion for music and the expression of romantic love has stayed the same. Jovon takes us on the backroads of Laurel, Delaware to show us the more charming parts of SoDel in his latest music video for his single Certified. Released in September 2021 and shot by Julian Alexander at the Chickberry Farms, a magical renovated barn-turned-wedding venue, this music video oozes nostalgia and adoration for simple living.

The video starts and Jovon is driving his lifted all black Dodge Ram past a field of tall crops. We cut to a scene of a WCHK-FM disc jockey introducing Jovon’s new song as he pulls up to Chickberry Farms. He switches off the radio, grabs his guitar, and heads over to the barn. We cut to a spirited scene of an American flag waving proud on the pole, not an uncommon sight below the canal. Inside the beautifully light venue he opens his arms and imagines his own special day, blushing bride included, as the music comes in.

The opening lines “You ain’t gotta get dolled up just to dial me up I’ll take you either way. And when you’re singing off key when I’m driving my truck so what it’s ok” really set the scene for two lovers who are comfortable and real in their courtship. We see Jovon singing passionately to the camera on the dance floor where any couple would be excited to enjoy their first dance as a married couple. Jovon’s military dog tags are proudly displayed around his neck as he continues his proclamation of love and loyalty in front of the foliage-clad podium outside, where a preacher or priest would officiate the ceremony.
Before Jovon switches into a beautiful falsetto voice for the last bridge we’re riding ATVs and reeving our engines in excitement for this new holy union. The blue skies and white picket fence make a perfect backdrop for a love song about partnership, acceptance, and the beauty of simplicity.
