As the roads clear and winter makes its appreciated exit, more artists are announcing cross-country tours. The independent music venues in the area are also announcing big shows featuring artists from the local area, the country, and around the world. In a time more prevalent than ever to support the local economy and arts, we rounded up a list of impressive shows you could drive to and get back home. March 9 - Elkton Music Hall 

Voted “Best Rock Band” in Central Pennsylvania, Big Fat Meanies offers a high-octane dose of horn-driven progressive rock with each impressive performance. Catch this Ladybug Music Festival Alumn at Elkton Music Hall in Elkton, Maryland, with support from Philadelphia rock-a-billy band Kelsey Cork & The Swigs on March 9. Tickets on sale here.

March 14 - The Queen 

Thievery Corporation returns to The Queen in Wilmington, Delaware, on March 14. Debuting in the mid-’90s, Washington, D.C.’s Thievery Corporation has been masterfully combining trip-hop,  acid jazz, world music and more for decades. Watch their larger-than-life ensemble conquer the Main Hall with their high energy performance. Snatch tickets up before they sell out here.

March 16 - Rainbow Records

Gingerfox Productions and Rainbow Records are collaborating on an all-ages music event seeped in music discovery on March 16. With an abundance of local bands including Pink Blush, Red Birds, Katie Dill and more, the Spring Jam returns in 2024 to the iconic Rainbow Records in Newark Delaware. With an $8 entry fee that’s waived for children under 10 years of age, Spring Jam is a guaranteed hit for the whole family. Find more information here.

March 21 - Kennett Flash

The Kennett Flash welcomes folk rock, Americana star Lizzie No to their stage on March 21. In  celebration of her latest album Halfsies, recently released on Thirty Tigers Records, Lizzie No brings a new perspective to roots music in her songs and performance. March 24- Listening Booth 

Cello-guitar songwriting duo Aaron Nathans & Michael G. Ronstadt never lose their capacity to surprise. This progressive folk act combines uninhibited musical creativity and mastery with accessible story songs and an oddball sense of humor. Get tickets to see them in Sussex County’s premier listening room The Listening Booth on March 24 here.

April 5 - Arden Music Hall 

Once again, Arden, Delaware, will be filled to the brim with world music magic as Sona Jobarteh takes the legendary Arden Gild Hall stage on April 5. Funded by The Delaware Division of The Arts, this is sure to be an unforgettable evening. Sona Jobarteh is Africa’s first female griot kora virtuoso, and a singer and composer who blends traditional music, blues, and Afropop. Get tickets to see Sona Jobarteh before they sell out here.
